Until 1 year of age your child must use a rear-facing child car seat when traveling in a car, van or truck.
There are three types of rear-facing child car seats:
- Infant
- Infant/child
- Infant/child/booster
Rear-facing child car seats support and protect the child’s head and spine in the event of a crash. A rear-facing child seat must never be used in a front passenger seating position that has an active air bag. Death or serious injuries can occur if the air bag inflates.
Follow these child passenger safety guidelines:
- Plan frequent stops when going on long road trips
- Only use the infant seat for travel in a car, van or truck
- When shopping or going for walks, take your baby out of the infant seat and use a stroller or a carrying device to transport your baby
- Never use an infant car seat as a crib
- Never leave a child unattended in a rear-facing car seat
