If your child is between birth and 1 year of age your child must use a rear-facing child car seat when traveling in a car, van or truck.

- Has weight limits that vary depending on the make and model – some go up to 16kg (35lb)

Infant/child seat
- Can be used rear or forward-facing
- Has rear-facing weight limits that vary depending on the make and model – some go up to 20.4kg (45lb)
- Has harness straps to secure the child
Infant/child/booster seat
- Can be used rear or forward-facing with harness straps or as a booster seat with the seat belt system
- Has rear-facing weight limits that vary depending on the make and model – some go up to 18kg (40lb)
- Has harness straps to secure the child when used as a child car seat
Key points for rear-facing child passengers:
- It is not healthy, or safe to keep a newborn in an infant seat for extended periods of time.
- Plan frequent stops when going on long road trips
- Never use an infant car seatĀ as a crib
- Never leave a childĀ unattended in a rear-facing car seat
