One of the most serious mistakes people make in this age group is moving their child forward-facing too soon. The BCAA Road Safety Foundation recommends you keep your child rear-facing as long as possible. A rear-facing child seat decreases the chance of your child being injured.
If your child is between 1 and 4 years old, you have more choices for the type of child car seat to use. The best protection for your child in this stage depends mostly on your child’s weight:
- Under 9 kg (20 lb)
- Over 9 kg (20 lb) to 18 kg (40 lb)
- Over 18 kg (40 lb) to 30 kg (65 lb)
- Over 30 kg (65 lb)
