Talking to others about your driving

Talking about driving is difficult for everyone. It is usually easier if you start the conversation.  Whoever you choose to talk to, make sure it is someone:

  • Who knows how you drive
  • You trust
  • Who cares about your well-being

You could feel fearful and resistant to the thought that your driving has become unsafe. Others could be concerned for your safety on the road and how you are going to stay mobile. Ask others if they have noticed any of the warning signs when driving with you.  Discuss your concerns and feelings. Family and friends can support you by:

  • Listening to your concerns
  • Give you honest feedback
  • Helping you explore alternative transportation available to you
  • Setting time aside to drive you where you need to go
  • Help you stay connected
