What  are the warning signs that suggest I should begin to limit driving or to stop altogether?

Below is a list of warning signs for unsafe driving. If you notice any of these behaviours in your own driving, note how often and how severe the behaviour is. It is time to consider stopping driving if:

  1. Your driving behaviour results in serious crash
  2. Your family or friends notice unsafe driving behaviours

Warning Signs of unsafe driving

A warning sign is if you:

  • Cause:
    • Scrapes or dents on the car
    • Crashes or near misses
  • Do not:
    • Notice traffic signs
    • See important activity on the side of the road
    • Stop at stop signs or red lights
    • Notice your own driving errors
  • Have trouble:
    • Making left-hand turns at intersections
    • Changing lanes or merging
    • Staying in your lane
    • Turning to see when backing up
  • Get lost on familiar routes
  • Confuse the gas and brake pedals
  • Stop in traffic for no reason
  • Are easily distracted while driving
  • Notice other drivers honk at you
  • Get traffic tickets or warnings
  • Need a co-pilot
