BC Car Insurance

Drivers with a Learner’s (L) licence don’t need to have their own insurance policies. Once you start driving on your own you will need insurance.  Most families will add you to their existing vehicle insurance policy. Use this time to find the best insurance options for your family’s vehicles.

How Can I Help Keep Insurance Costs Down?

Your insurance rate will likely be higher than your parents. Here are a few tips to help you reduce insurance costs:

  • Share vehicles - how you are classified (a main or occasional driver) will affect insurance rates
  • Practice driving - drive in varied conditions so you gain more experience and reduce your risk of crashing
  • Partner with your parents – follow your parent-teen driving agreement
  • Consider vehicle type - the kind of car you drive can impact your insurance rates
